The beauty is in the wild decoration and pattern. Mochaware derived its name from the mocha stone or moss agate which was imported from Arabia to England through the port of Mocha on the Red Sea. English potters began producing Mocha decoration on pearl or white glazed china during the early 19th century.
The decoration was created when an acidic drip was applied to the slip creating a chemical reaction. By controlling how the slip was applied the worker could create shaped decorations which are known today as: earthworm, cats eye, tree, seaweed and feather forms.
